My name is Bob and I’ve been climbing for over 20 years. Having spent most of my working life as an engineer, I moved to the edge of the Peak District to give myself more outdoor time and to find a better work-life balance.
I’m at my happiest half-way up a rock face, chilling at the foot of a crag or summiting a peak after a challenging scramble. I’m at my second happiest when I’m reverse-engineering, fixing or making things. I’ve always been good at working with my hands and get satisfaction from repairing and improving things that would otherwise be disposed of.
I’d had several pairs of my own climbing shoes resoled so it struck me that an obvious combination of my interests would be to learn to do it for myself! I have enjoyed the challenge of working out how to tackle the different issues presented by assorted styles of shoe and I am also very grateful to a number of other resolers, in this country and across the globe, who helped with answering quite a few questions along the way. Their help has been a testament to the generous nature of the climbing community.
I am proud of my craft and the quality of my work. My resoles are performed by hand, by me in my workshop in the Peak district.
